Why I Became A Financial Advisor

By Joe Arnold, AIF®

There’s no denying it: money, and how you handle it, can make or break your life (and your stress levels). I came from a single-parent home and my mother had no one to turn to for financial advice. This taught me the importance of financial planning and education and how much it can impact your life. As I got older, it became clear that my mother wasn’t the only one lacking objective financial advice. I became a financial advisor so I could help and teach others to manage their money well so they don’t have to live in the dark when it comes to retirement and financial planning.

First Career Steps

My passion for finances and investments was firmly in place as I earned my Bachelor of Business Administration from Cleveland State University, but it was my 5 years as a professional golf instructor that cemented my love for teaching and coaching. I decided to combine these twin passions and became a financial advisor almost 20 years ago. After working for various firms, gaining valuable experience, and earning the Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) designation, I decided to start my own independent firm.

Branching Out

Today, I am founder and president of Foundation Wealth Advisors, a financial services firm providing private individual investment management and retirement planning along with 401(k) retirement plan consulting for small and mid-sized businesses. I spend my days putting my clients’ best interests first in all decision-making and recommendations, offering objective advice to help them achieve their financial goals.

No job is perfect. But even though it can sometimes be a struggle to balance all the hats I’m wearing, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing my clients retire with confidence and feel more secure in their retirement planning and investments. As a former collegiate and professional golfer, I have an inner drive to succeed that I bring into my work so my clients can have the opportunity to pursue and achieve financial success and security.
